Sometimes it is almost impossible to miss it!
Its three weeks before Christmas: the moment the
world stops and God launches a rocket that explodes globally with lights and
presents and songs and food and holidays to proclaim the birth of his own Son
Jesus.

On Sunday churches across the world began ‘Advent’ –
the traditional period set aside to prepare ourselves for this great royal
birth of Jesus.

On Sunday I preached on ‘Emmanuel’ – the great name
of ‘God with us’ resurrected from Isaiah chapter 7 and placed on Jesus:
expectations of rescue and restoration and rule and harmony and joy and hope.

On Sunday we dedicated baby Emmanuella, named after
her grandfather, but ultimately named after Jesus – the true Emmanuel, God with
us.

On Monday the
world heard an announcement of a royal birth in the UK. Will and Kate are expecting a baby! The media is bursting with it. Every newspaper on the local ASDA stand had
photos and headlines blazing this good news.
And it is good news – a baby to be born; in fact a royal baby to be
born.
Do you believe in God’s providence?
Sometimes it is almost impossible to miss it!
It presents to us in the conversations that will
fill this week a great opportunity to move from Kate & Will good news of a
royal baby to be born, to God’s greater news of his royal son who has been
born. And whereas the media hype and
expectation on this unborn child will almost inevitably be impossible to
fulfil, Jesus has fulfilled all the expectation and hype placed on him.
